In the reading section, the writer contends that the science of archeology in the United Kingdom was faced with some problems such as losing some valuable artifacts, lacking financial support for archeological research, and having trouble finding jobs in archaeology; however, in the lecture, the professor cast doubts on the reading points by presenting some counterarguments.
Firstly, the author claims that many precious artifacts were destroyed to construction projects; in contrast, the speaker rejects this notion by stating that based on new government’s laws before each construction, desired site should be examined that it wouldn’t be archaeological interest.
Secondly, even though the writer asserts that the financial support of government for archaeological research isn’t enough, the lecturer believes that the other new governments laws is that the construction companies are responsible for paying for archaeological research for desired sites and now with this support archaeologists are capable of doing research more than the past.
Finally, according to the article, people have difficulty finding a career in archaeology; nonetheless, the professor challenges this idea too and mentions that today the government provides people with more career opportunities including examining the archaeological value of the site, planning for preserving the sit for doing research, and processing the data; as a result, nowadays we have more archaeologists compared with the past.
