The reading and the lecture are both about whether dinosaurs migrated from the North slope to the south region during winter. The author of the reading feels that dinosaurs in that era- Edmontosaurus might have migrated to the south region due to some reasons while the lecturer opposed it. She is of the opinion that the migratory hypothesis is not true.
To begin with, the author argues that dinosaurs would travel down south because of their sustenance. In that era, they used to eat plants. However, the North slope was not an appropriate place for plants to grow up. This specific argument is challenged by the lecturer. He claims that the North slope had an utterly perfect environment for plants to grow up. Additionally, he says there was sunshine for 24 hours. It has a lot of vegetation. Even if they die, they sustain nutrients in their body.
Secondly, the writer suggests that the dinosaurs' skeletons were discovered at the same site. In the article, it is said that they generally lived in a herd. The lecturer, however, rebuts this by mentioning that most general animals were living in herd for many reasons, such as for protection. Even though animals such as the Roosevelt elk lived in a herd, they didn’t migrate.
Finally, the author posits that they had the capacity to migrate long distance. Moreover, it is stated in the article that they are able to run fast. So they had locomotive power to move to another warmer place. In contrast, the lecturer’s position is they could not have migrated because of their children. He notes that the adolescent dinosaurs are not as fast and strong as adult dinosaurs. They are not even strong to walk such a long distance. So it might be impossible to move to another place. They had to stay with them.
