Many of my colleagues will disagree but I believe that the time is right to legalize marijuana Yes this is a hot button issue however there are good reasons why the growing and selling of marijuana should no longer be a criminal offense in the United Stat

The article states that marijuana should be legalized and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor says that the marijuana legalizing case shows its ugly face again and refutes each of the author's reasons.

First, the reading claims that the federal government may use the money which can be collected from taxes of marijuana. The professor refutes this point by saying that money collected by taxing marijuana sounds good but the problem is the amount of money. She states that 100 billion dollars could be seem good but it is like that only for state level. If we think the situation at the national level the money will not be seem that much to worth legalizing a new drug. Instead of tax money from marijuana, the government can increase taxes of gasoline and its effect could be at the national level because majority of population will be affected by the change.

Second, the article posits that the number of crimes related to marijuana will be decreased if it become legal. However, the professor says that it will not be happen like the article assumed. According to professor, there are too much money in the marijuana sector. Even if it is not legal, the cartels ships the drug into the United States. When it would be legalized, the money in this job will be increased and it will lead the increase of crime related to the drug.

Third, the reading states that it should be personnel choice whether using it or not like alcohol and cigarette. The professor opposes this point by explaining that the citizens of the country are already addicted to lots of drugs such as alcohol, cigarette, and prescribed drug. She also says that people have the right of poisoning themselves but they do not have the right to increase the fire by adding more gasoline.
