productivity and rewards

First, the article states that promise of incentives improves employee attitudes. However, the professor refutes this point by saying that controlled study shows that people want to be paid with respect and not with incentives. Professor explains that people interpret that incentive is a way for an enterprise to manipulate and control the employees.

Second, the argument posits that productivity increases when incentive comes into play. However, the professor states that incentive leads to less productivity. According to the professor, the disappointment of not getting a reward is equivalent to punishment for an employee. Consequently, reduces the motivation and the productivity of the employee.

Third, the professor says that rewards reduce the amount of quality work. The professor explains this by saying that the partnership between the supervisor and his subordinates weakens because a worker would conceal problems and mistakes from the supervisor to avoid negative rating which in turn would lead to no reward.
