The passage and the talk discuss the effectiveness of cloud seeding in preventing damage to crops caused by formation of hail. The author claims that cloud seeding is an effective technique to prevent hails formation. The lecturer, however, refutes the author's assessment. He demonstrates three reasons to cast doubt on the claims made in the reading

The First allegation of script against which the orator argues is the reduction in crops damage cause by conversion of hail into snow. In contrast, The lecturer highlights the fact that this process surprisingly, has resulted in the reduction of hail as well as the reduction in snow and rain. As a results, instead of crops being destroyed by hail, they have been destroyed by drought.

Second, according to the text, the experience from Asia can exemplify the benefits of cloud seeding in preventing crops damage. Though the speaker finds this idea debatable. He bolster his opinion by stating that the experience from Asia cannot be generalized to other parts of the world. The interaction between silver iodide and pollutants could be the reason behind the success of cloud seeding in Asia.

Finally the lecturer contradicts the fallacy of the passage that cloud seeding was the reason behind the reduction of crops damage in the American study. Again, the lecturer refutes this fact by saying that other factors may have contributed to the success of this study He contends that the reduction in pesticides usage may also have a determinant effect on the results.
