TOEFL integrated writing: Chaco housing

Both the writing and lecturer are discussing about how the buildings are used in Chaco canyon. while the author in the writing provides three theories to support that canyon are used for either residential, to store food or as ceremonial center. the lecturer argues otherwise.
first of all, the theory claim that chaco buildings are residential with hundreds of people on each housing since those buildings are similar to the apartment buildings. this theory is challenged by the lecturer. he states that although the exterior is similar to the apartment the interior is quite different than the modern building. additionally, he says that if the building were used for residential purpose there should be enough fireplace for each family, but there are only a few fireplaces in the largest building.
secondly, the theory states that the buildings were used as storage for food supply. since maize one of the main crop of chaos has to be stored for long periods in a larger area that means building. this argument is rebutted in the lecture. the lecturer states that during the excavation traces of maize or maize containers are not found in the building area. thus this theory lacks the evidence.
finally, the last theory states that the buildings were used as ceremonial center since broken pots were found during the excavation. the lecturer cast doubt on this by arguing that apart from the broken pots large quantity of building materials like sand and stones were found. additionally, he says that the broken pots might be the leftover from the meal of the construction workers.
