The article introduces the topic of a four-day workweek. More specifically the author discusses the benefits of offering a four-day workweek. The lecture in the listening passage disagrees. He believes that offering employees four-day workweek will affect negatively on the economy as a whole and attack each of the claims made in the topic
In the reading passage. The author mentioned that taking this option will benefit companies and increase their profits however in the listening passage the speaker is doubtful that is offering this option will force companies to spend more, adding new workers drive companies to put much money for training theme, also their medical beneficial is worthy wither they are four-day or five-day workers and remember having more employees require more computers and offices.
The author also stated that taking a four-day workweek will provide job opportunities and decrease the unemployment rate. on the other hand, the professor In the listening passage is unconvinced about the job opportunities that will exist unless employees take the four-day option, because hiring new workers is expensive which may lead companies to begin asking their employees to handle other jobs, On top of that companies might start expecting that four-day or five-day employees can do the same amount of job and probably that lead job opportunities to be worse.
Another reason why the author supports a four-day workweek is that it gives employees extra time to be with family or enjoy other activities. In the listening, the speaker said the extra time will be given for four-day employees maybe putt them in risk and prevent them from advancing in the company and make sure that the short week worker are lucky to lose their job once the economy is down finally they might be passed over for promotion basically companies prefer five-day worker in a management position.
To sum up. Both the writer and professor hold conflicting views about a four-day workweek. It’s clear that they will have trouble finding some common ground on this issue.
