The passage casts doubt on certification of wood companies in American market whereas the lecture deals with the reasonings how widely the concept of certification helps in conservation and recycling of wood. According to the lecture, it is said that Americans will seek ecocertification of wood issued by international organisations for three reasons.
First, nowadays Americans don't treat all advertisements the same. They can distinguish the advertisement claims. They find it more trustworthy as they are aware of international consumer agencies and independent organisations which certify the wood companies. Therefore, the doubt of people not believing in advertisements on certification is ruled out.
Second, not only Americans, everyone is conscious about the price. But it does not mean they will not use the product if it has high price. When two competitive products have high price difference then preference will obviously shift to the economical product. However, if there is price difference of five percent or less, then they will surely make a choice on certified wood. Because they know the value of conserving and recycling the product.Furthermore, it is clarified that Americans prefer certified wood rather than uncertified wood.
Third, American companies must do research on the foreign wood companies. This is not for expanding trade to foreign countries but to understand the fact that if American companies don't take care of certification than the competent foreign companies will flourish in the American market. This can cause great loss to American wood companies. Thus, the doubt regarding competitors has been clarified.
