The reading passage states the population decline of sea otter depends on the population of an environment, not from the predators. However, the professor refutes arguments of an author which presented in the passage.
First and foremost, the reading claims the rate of chemical pollution of water which causes by the oil rigs and other industries decrease the survival resistance of a sea otter. On the other hand, the professor interprets people do not found any dead body of the otter which opposes the idea and trigger a new one. According to her, if the predator eats the otter, nothing remains in that place.
Secondly, the article indicates that the main predator orca of otter prefers to hunt enormous sized animal such as whales rather than small mammals. In contrast, the lecturer argued that the population of whales also decline because of the human hunting which increases the risk of the otter to hunted by the predators.
Thirdly and finally, the passage suggests that the decline rate related to the current of water by the result of researchers. Nonetheless, the lecturer made a counterclaim to the point by explaining the location of the deep water is more convenient for the orcas to live which increase the rate of decline.
