TPO 11: a decline in reading the literature

The reading and lecture are both about people spending less time on reading literature novels and etc. than they used to. The article states that this is troubling for reading public, for culture in general and for future literature itself. however, the professor explains that it doesn't mean that culture is in decline and refutes the article reasons.

The article mentions that literature encourage us to exercise our imagination and empathize with others, so by reading less the reading public is missing out on important benefits. The professor refutes that point. she states that the book should not be literature that can be intellectually stimulating. Science, history and political analysis often have high quality and can be creative and well written.

The article claims that people instead of sitting down with a novel, many of them turn on the TV, watch music video or read a web page. Clearly it will cause lower level of culture in general. however, the professor contends that if accept that people read less book in general, there is a lot of cultural material that doesn’t written. people can listen to a brilliant song or watch a good movie. The culture expression has changed. In today’s culture, there is a lot of expression that necessarily are not novel.

Moreover, article stated that there are many talented writers today, but they lack an audience so publisher support fewer writers. The lecture opposes this point. she says that it is the authors’ fault, the new literatures have less support because they are difficult to understanding.
