TPO 11: a decline in reading the literature

The writer refers to a recent research which shows a decline in reading literature among people and mentions several drawbacks as the consequence of such a phenomenon. The professor in the lecture agrees with the fact that there has been a decrease in reading literature, but casts doubt on the results which the writer mentions.

First of all, the professor points out that literature is not the only type of books which is well written and can stimulate imagination. According to the professor, there have been several excellent-quality reading materials in other fields such as science or history, which are intellectually beneficial. However, the writer states that literature materials are the exclusive form that can be intellectual stimulation.

Furthermore, the lecturer challenges the point in the passage that recent songs and movies are lowering the level of the culture. Instead, she claims that not only aren't they harmful to society, but most of them are of great values as well. The professor alleges that we have to agree that the culture has changed, and other elements can contribute to enhance it besides written forms.

Finally, the lecturer opposes the claim in the reading that readers are the primary cause of the decrease in the number of contemporary high caliber literature. In contrast, she has a notion that the difficulty in the language the writers use is the main reason which people are avoiding to pay attention to recent types of literature. Even early people would refuse to adopt recent materials if they were exposed to these challenging literature, she claimed.
