Both the reading and listening is about the old artifact that is used in united kingdom in which there is serious problem and limitation in preserving those artifacts or not. The author of the reading says that due to some problem it is hard to preserve those artifacts. The lecture cast doubt about this statement in which she says that United kingdom has a rules and pattern to preserve them.
Firstly the reading claim that valuable artifacts are lost to the construction project. Author of reading says that when there is a new construction work is permitted to carry on, it is done on the old structure and that is how old structure is destroyed. But the lecture challenged this statement. She says that after 1990 there is an official guideline which was so strict to protect the old artifacts. She also says the pattern is to examine the construction site and search the site whether there is any old artifact present or not. The lecture also extends that if there is any presence of old artifacts then the builder and local government will work together to find out the structure. She also mention that there is also a proper documentation of the findings from the site.
secondly, the author tells that there is a low financial support for the finding of artifacts. He also elaborates that government as well as private organization does not fund for excavation. The lecture challenge this statement boldly. She says that there is a financial support from the construction company which was not given before. she also said that there is an initial exam and if something found from this exam the government as well as construction company will bear this expenses.
Thirdly, The author from reading says that it is hard for anyone to pursue archaeology as a carrier as many of the graduate of this subject switch carrier to other subject.
