The reading and lecture are both about the Torreya taxifoha, a tree grown in the north, but has presently declining in population in which solution are stated to this issue. However, the professor in the lecture undermines this cure for the decrease in the rate of the tree by elaborating on the disadvantages of this solution in the ensuing paragraph.
Firstly, the article states that the first solution provided was to replant this three in the same environment in which it thrived and originally habited. Since the temperature in the climate was cooler and wetter which comfortable in Florida. In contrast, the lecturer counters this stand point by explictly stating negative results about this approach. She states that, the other regions close had affected its temperature as well as the presence of global warming which has dried up wet lands.
Secondly, the author of the passage further expansiate on a different solution which implied that the tree be transported to a different location far from the north with a cooler temperature. Also, describing as an assisted migration. Nevertheless, the lecture refutes this by mentioning a similar example of a tree who undergoes this process called the Black locust. So the damage was severe because it spreads rapidly which endangered other plants leading to their extinction. She claims that if this emerges, the result is usually unforeseen
Finally, the passage took another view describing that the torreya could be kept in in research centers to protect the life span of the tree in question and be observed closely. Furthermore, the professor in the lecture rebuts this, by confirming that it could be prone to certain diseases due to the absence of its wild life. In addition to the research centers are unable to provide adequate capacity to survive the disease.
In conclusion, the lecture takes a stand that the above mentioned solutions are not satisfactory and unsuccessful since the professor effective challenged the points acclaimed in the reading.
