In Hawaii, for example, a new pest-resistant species of papaya trees has been developed in response to ring spot virus infections that have repeatedly damaged the native papaya tree population. Planting the genetically modified papayas has largely put an end to the ringspot problem.
Moreover, genetically modified trees promise to bring a number of economic benefits to those who grow them. Genetically modified trees tend to grow faster, give greater yields of food, fruit, or other products and be hardier. This allows tree farmer to get faster and greater returns on their farming investment and save on pesticides as well.
Finally, the use of genetically modified trees can prevent overexploitation of wild trees. Because of the growing demand for firewood and building timber, many forests around the world are being cut down faster than they can be replaced. Introducing genetically modified trees,designed for fast growth and high yield in given geographic conditions,would satisfy the demand for wood in many of those areas and save the endangered native trees, which often include unique or rare species.

In the listening part, however, the lecturer challenges what the author states and refutes the reasons, costing that there are several advantages, but they have problems and costs.
To begin with, as mentioned in the article, the author sets forth that geneticallu modified trees are resistent to every situation rather than natural trees. Nevertheless, the professor rebutes the idea asserthing that they might be resistened to one condition but not all of them. if they are non-native to a conditation, climate or insects may caus to distroy them and ruin them.
Secondly, the author points out that they have economical benefits for the owner of the lands and farmers who grow them because they grow faster and in the short time, individualls can utilize them. Nonetheless, the professor flatly contradics the idea and contend that when they grow the trees and it ruins, the farmer would pay lots of money, or if they all died for claimate changes, it would be costly. Moreover, they should pay to companies who produce pasticates every time and it does not make sense in the line of economical benefits.
Finally, the author claims that they can grow rappidly and enormously. Therefore, people can use them as a alternative for extara woods and replace with the spieces that they are alreadey rare. In contrast, the professor is of the opinion that it cause more damages, in order to grows aggresivelly and amoung native trees, they might destroy these resorces. Hence, they have not any benefit for native species which are rare and in the danger.
