TPO-23 - Integrated Writing Task

Based on the given materials, the article as well as the lecturer discusses decline in yellow cedar population. The author states that the number of these trees are gowing down with a constant pace since a hundered years ago. That being said, the lecturer provides several ideas to repudiate this claim.

Initially, the author says that these trees are dying as a result of insects parasite. The larvae of the beetle consumes the wood which leads to destruction of the tree. However, the lecturer explains that these insects can not be the cause. the trees are resistant to such attacks since The yellow cedar trees are saturated with a chemical protecting it from insects since the chemical is poisoness for insects. So it is unlikely that these insects is because the insects may have attacked an already damaged tree and the insects themselves are not responsible for the death of the tree.

Second, the writer proclaims that the bears might be the cause. The bark of the cedar trees contain high amount of sugar which the bear can use. Yet again the speaker underscores that claim. He points out, the bears might be the reason for a part of the destruction but not for all. The author mentions that the cedar trees are spread widely around the continent but bears are not found every where and they are limited to some places. He gives an instance to illustrate his point. Cedar trees can be found on the islands. Albeit there live no bears but still the cedar trees are dying out so the speaker challenges this idea by mentioning that the trees are declining with and without bears.

The final point of contention between reading and listening passages is climate changes. The author thinks gorwing roots of these trees might be influenced by the changes in the temreture and the will freez as a consequence of this enviromental effect. On the othere hand, the speaker explains that frost may damage roots of most plants but this kind of tree is really resistant to the cold whether. The lecturer supports his claim by pointing the fact that fewer trees are dying in cold vicinities while in warmer quarters we observe more losses.
