TPO 28- Robert E. Peary was a well-known adventurer and arctic explorer who in 1909 set out to reach the North Pole. When he returned from the expedition, he claimed to have reached the pole on April 7, 1909. This report made him into an international celebrity. Though some historians have expressed doubts that Peary did in fact reach the North Pole, three arguments provide strong support for the truth of Peary’s claim.

While the reading states that Robert E. Peary , a famous adventure, reached the north pole, the lecturer challenges the statements made by the author of the reading. The passage says truth of the Peary's claim supported by some historians; however, the lecturer is of the opinion that none of these theories is correct.
First of all, the passage claims that a committee investigated Peary's annals and tools. It argues that Peary's records were compelling and asserted that he actually got to the north pole. This argument challenged by the lecturer. She says that the committee members were not objective enough because they were Peary's close friends who invested on this trip, therefore the conclusion was biased and unreliable.
Secondly, the author of the reading asserts that actually Robert E. Peary reached the north pole after 37 days. This is supported by the claims that a British adventurer made the exact way in less than 37 days with the same tools and dogs,so Peary's claim is not impracticable. The lecturer, however, rebuts this by asserting that there were several differences in speed issues between these two explorer. She elaborates on this by mentioning that the British explorer carried much less weight than Peary, and the air condition was very good compare to Robert E. Peary, also food supply of the British adventurer supported by air planes.
Finally, it is stated in the article that there are several pictures taken by Peary to support his claim about reaching the North Pole. The article establishes that the Sun's position in pictures stand for the Sun's position in the north pole. The lecturer , on the other hand, posits that these evaluations were inaccurate. This is supported by mentioning that these photos were blurred and faded, so the measuring was not compelling enough that the photos were taken at the North Pole.
