TPO-35 - Integrated Writing Task

The article and the lecture both discuss both about an antique illuminated book which is written on vellum. The author of the reading states three theory about the origin of the book. The lecturer casts doubt on all three claims made in the reading and he strongly reject them.
To begin with, the author of the reading pushes forth the idea that this book is written by Anthony Ascham, a prominent physician and botanist, who wrote scientific and magical in this book. Moreover, it is mentioned that the plants illustrated in this book are similar to his previous works. In the lecture the professor has a completely different opinion toward this point. He says that Anthony Ascham was an ordinary scientist and his works especial the plants pictured in his books are popular plants which are available in different resources. He states that Anthony Ascham conveyed superficial information in his books not magical materials.
Furthermore, it can be inferred from the reading that Kelly, a novelist, who made fake and artificial books to make money may have created this book. It is noted that Kelly used alphabet to make his works weird to make people foolish and sell his books. While, the lecturer believes that people in sixteenth century were not smart as people are now therefore Kelly had not to make lots of strange and unfamiliar illustration to sell his books.
Finally, according to the reading passage Voynich , who is antique book seller, may have created the book to make tremendous amount of money by selling it. This point is entirely challenged by the lecturer, he asserts that by means of new technology and new scanning tools we have determined that both the vellum and ink used in this book were created about 400 years ago. Additionally, he states that it is impossible to make ink looks like a 400 years old although he can use a vellum.
