In this set of materials the reading passage discusses that three reasons to to justified mass-extinction at the end of the Triassic period. While in the listening the professor casts doubts on what is presented in the text and believes that Non of these reasos that mentioned in the reading are not good explnation for this mass-extinction.
First of all, it the text it is clearly mentioned that a dicline of sea leve is responsible for this mass-extinction. However, the professor claims that the evedince show that some fluctuation in the sea leve was occured in this period. But this kind of fluctuation in sea level take about million years and is this long time the animals and plants have enough time to adapt with the new condition. She says that just one sudden fluctuation is sea level can led to this climate changing and there is not any evidence for this occurance.
In addition, the professor disagrees with this idea that volcanose eruption and a increase in the amoung of So2 is the reason for mass-extinction. She says that increase in So2 in atmospher can has a cooling effect. But this gas cannot remain in atmospher longe enough to can produce this cooling effect. Because So2 combind with water in the atmospher and come back to ground as shape of acid rains.
Finally, in the text it is stated that an asteroids is responsible for mass-extinction. The professor subscribes that the researcher could not found any evidence of asteroid hit at this time. And the just one asteroid hit are related to many time before this extinction.
