Many scientists believe that it would be possible to live in other planets. Venus is one of the planets that is candidate for permanent human presence. The reading passage indicates some reasons that permanent presence of human in Venus is impossible. The lecturer, nonetheless, throws doubt on all reasons presented in reading passage and offers some counterclaims to refute them all.
First, the author argues that atmospheric pressure on the surface of Venus is at least 90 times higher than earth. Hence, this high pressure will destroy anything on the surface of Venus. Converesely, the lecturer thinks that scientists can establish station above the surface of Venus and the pressure on the station would be equal to pressure on the earth surface.
Furthermore, the reading passage highlights that there are no water and oxygen sources on the Venus. The atmosphere of Venus made up with carbon dioxide, nitrogen and sulfuric acid. The speaker, on the contary, claims that station can use this compound to create water and oxygen for station and there is no need to transport oxygen and water to the Venus.
Finally, the reading passage points out that very little sunlight reaches the planet's surface and Venus atmosphere reflects most of the sunlight. In contrast, the lecturer thinks that the cloud on the atmosphere of Venus is not thick as the author mentioned. Additionally, the speaker claims that station can use both types of absorbed and reflected sunlight to create electricity.
