TPO-42 - Integrated Writing Task Glass is a favored building material for modern architecture, yet it is also very dangerous for wild birds. Because they often cannot distinguish between glass and open air, millions of birds are harmed every year when the

In this set of materials, the reading passage expresses the glass which is used as building material, is very dangerous for wild birds and provide some solutions in order to fix the problem, whereas the speaker states none of these solutions work effectively.
The author mentions if the clear glass is replaced with one-way glass, the birds will understand that the glass form is a solid barrier and won't fly through it. But the speaker mentions this solution has its own problem. The one-way glass reflects objects, like trees, just like a mirror and the birds will try to fly through the window.
Based on the reading passage, the second solution is about using colorful designs on regular windows. As a result, when birds see these thin stripes, they avoid trying to fly through the glass. However based on the lecture, this solution is worth nothing. Thin stripes make large opening on the window and the birds will see them as open holes and try to fly through them, and if the colorful designs become more larger, there are extremely small openings on the window and make the inside of the house too dark.
In reading section, the author suggests if humans use the magnetic compass, the can help birds navigate in the right direction when they fly. But the speaker sates this solution won't be effective, because birds use this ability in order to travel to very long distances, and since they don't use it over short trips, this solution is worth nothing.
