Both the reading and lecture discuss three theories about glass that is used by many architects in modern buildings which is dangerous for wild birds. While the author claims that architects can replace this material with other one that does not harmful for bird, the lecturer disagrees and provides some pieces of evidence to state that these theories do not work at all.

First, the reading says that they can put one way glass that help birds to recognize it. Therefore, it prevents injuries to birds. People who are in building can see through this window but those birds and others can not. However, the speaker disagrees. According to the lecture, these materials reflect everything like mirror. Additionally, birds can not understand mirror. For instance, when they see sky or tree in the mirror they think that they are real. As a result, they make a mistake and hit the glass suddenly.

Secondly, according to the reading passage, it is helpful that paint and color glass with patterns like the general design of building. Consequently, birds would see the strips and keep themselves away to approach to the building. Conversely, the lecturer disapproves this point. He mentions that this theory does not work for them because between these lines there are many holes. So it encourages them to fly through them directly. Moreover, if we make them close together, building will be too dark inside.

Finally, the reading section suggests that, magnetic compass is a good idea to add to glass. Birds have a nature ability to sense earth magnetic areas. They equipped with powerful electromagnets emit magnet signals. Therefore, birds keep themselves away from building. On the other hand, the lecturer rejects this hypothesis. He argues that these kind of animals normally migrate from cold area to warm place over long distances. But they use their eyes and light when they travel city to city.
