In the lecture, the professor points out a series of arguments that cast doubt on all the benefits of computerized medical records compare to paper record presented in the reading material. She states the benefits of electronic medical records that are presented in the reading passage are very uncertain.
First of all, the electronic medical records do not necessarily reduce the cost of recording as the reading states. Most of the doctors do not eliminate the hard and paper copies and keep it as documents for themselves as emergency backup so the cost does not change.
Secondly, using electronic record does not eliminate the possibility of having errors. Most of the doctors use their own pen and papar in their office and office staff fill the form at the later time which can have handwriting error.
Lastly, the professor states access to electronic record for research is not nessessarily easier than hard copies. Due to confidentiality, access to these records are restricted by privacy laws and needs lots of permissions. So if the patient blocks the access to their record no one can have access to them.
