In the lecture, the professor makes a series of points that cast doubt on all the solusions proposed in the reading section for increasing salinity of inland lake which is in danger. She states the solusions are not realistic or practical.
First of all, the lecturer points out direct removal of salt from lake's water which is proposed by author could decrease the salinity but produce serious problems. She states it is true that by pumping water and heating it water would evaporate. Therfefore, the solid material would left behind like salt but there are lots of other chemicals in the solid part which some of them are toxic and harmful for people. For example, the selenium in the solid part is very toxic if breathed. So if wind distribute this selenium powder to the air and people breath them ,there would cause a very serious health problem.
Moreover, the speaker refutes the dilusion of salt level in lake with ocean's water as a solusion. She beleives this action needs lots of construction and pipeline which needs lots of budget. The distanse between the lake and ocean is long and needs lots of pipelineTherefore, due to not having enough budget by government is not practical.
Lastly, the lecturer challenges the solusion proposed in the reading about constructing walls to devide the salinity in the lake. She clearifies this action may work for shortwhile but can not be successful for the longterm. She states earthquick and some accident can destroy these divisions and mix their content with other part.
