In the lecture, the professor makes a series of points that cast doubt on all the argument presented in the reading passage about the benefit of making Asteroid colonies. He states making asteroid colonization is not practical and has serious downside.
First of all, the speaker points out despite the fact that low gravity makes the landing and taking off the spacecrafts much easier as the reading claims, it has drawback. In fact, low gravity put the people health into danger. Loosing muscle tone and decreasing bone density would hurt the people who have to stay there for a long time.
Moreover, the professor refutes the profitable mining metals which was proposed by the author. He elaborates that at first it may seem a profitable idea to mine gold and platinium from asteroid but by considering whole picture it is not.Considering the cost of supplying this colonization and transfering mining metal to the earth and price of the metal which is not the same as before make this idea nonprofitable. He says by increasing in supply of mining metal will change the market price and make it cheap.
Lastly, the lecturer opposes to the point stated in the reading about the very easy reach to the asteroid due to change in distance in their orbit. He states that although in some point reaching to the asteroid becomes easy, the return from them would be difficult. In fact , if it is close in one point but it would not stay that much close.
