TPO 7: Ecocertification for wood companies
The reading specifies that American wood companies will not use ecologicaly friendly particle for acquiring ecocertification. However, the professor catss doubt on it and explain that these companies eventually will use this method since there are good reasons.
First, based on the reading, since American consumers are exposed to so much advertising, they do not pay attention to the ecocertification lebel and because of that American do not trust in advertising claim. Nevertheless, the professor explains that Americans to not treat all advertisements the same. He believes that American consumers distinguish the independent organization which gave ecocertification. Therefore, they are confident in this organization.
Second, according to the reading, ecocertified wood are more expensive than uncertified wood. Because of that, consumers are more inclined toward wood do not have certificate since it is cheaper. In contrast, the speaker states that people do not pay attention to the price difference value when its low like wood that have certification. In this case, people pay attention to other factor like benefits for environment.
Third, the lecturer asserts that American wood companes sell most of their products in the United States and getting certification is necessary if they sold their products abroad. On the contrary, the author says that American wood companies are in a competition with foreign countries which make it curcial to own ecocertification. If they do not get certification, foregin countries will acquire the American market which has negative effects on wood companies.
