Both the reading and lecture are about an ancient handwritten manuscript which has been written on the vellum and also it was obtained by Voynich. This book includes a complex unreadable code and content. The reading provides three reasons for the origin of this book and then supports them. The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article and finds all arguments dubious.

First of all, the author of reading declares that the mentioned manuscript is a valuable scientific or magical book because its code is unknown. It may have been for Anthony Ascham who was a physician in 16th century. This point is challenged by the lecturer. She points out that this person was an ordinary physician and he used other original ideas as his own work. For instance the herbal which is a well-known plant and it has been alluded in this book, does not seem be idea of Ascham and even these complex detailed codes fail to consider as his book.

Secondly, the article contends that there was a man who was called Edward Kelley. his work was that he was making fake books and then he was selling them to wealthy people; in the contrast the professor poses that people in the 16th century did not have enough knowledge for discerning a fake or original book; hence, Kelly did not need to spend much time for writing such complicated codes.

Finally, the reading passage offers that Voynich could have written this book. Since he was an old book seller; consequently his knowledge allowed him to write this fake book for appealing people and obtaining money. This argument is rebutted by the professor again. He claims that based on a research, it was discovered that the ink and vellum's date of this manuscript returns to 400 years ago and as we all now Voynich was living in 1912; therefore this offer is disproved by the lecturer.
