The reading specifies that there are three main reasons to support the idea that dinosaurs were endotherm. However, the lecturer casts doubt on this claim and brings up three reasons to reject the specific points made in the reading passage.
First of all, the author asserts that dinosaurs’ fossils have been found in polar region. On the other hand, only animals which can adapt their body temperature with the environment can survive there. Nevertheless, the lecturer states it is possible dinosaurs migrated in cold seasons to warmer climates or they may be hibernated during the winter.
Second, based on the reading, leg position of dinosaurs is under their body like all endotherms. Actually, they need this position to do some physical activities. While the lecturer brings up the idea that position leg can be due to their high weights. In this position, legs can support more weights and it is not necessarily related to being endotherm.
Third, the reading proposes that dinosaurs have some structures in their bodies called Haversian canals which are exclusive to the endotherms. However, the lecturer asserts that dinosaurs have different growth rate in different seasons, whereas, endotherms have the same growth rate in cold and warm weather.
Therefore, the points mentioned in the reading do not make sense.
