TPO44: the silver coin which is founded in US is genuine evidence or the fake one?
The passage and reading both discuss the different ideas of archaeologists in silver coin which was found in the state of Maine in the United States. This would raise a question that it is a genuine historical record or not. The reading passage claims that it is not a genuine evidence. However, the lecturer finds all the ideas dubious and presents some evidence to refute them all.
Firstly, the reading states that the there is a large distance from the places where Norse was settled them are so far from where the Maine site is located. On the contrary, the lecturer brings up the idea that there is a great distance between these two locations, but it is not impossible to travel to Maine site like other Native American who travel large distances to visit there.
Secondly, the reading assets that no other silver coin have been found in the Norse settlements and it reveals that Norse bring no coin with himself to America. Conversely, the lecturer states that it is not necessary to find another coin to prove the historical reality of the silver coin. Also, Norse was permanently had settled at Maine site, so he brings all his coins back to Europe when he came back to origin he comes from.
Finally, the reading holds the view that silver coin is unusable in America, so Norse couldn’t bring them with himself and no American recognize silver coin as currency. In contrast, the lecturer dismisses this issue due to the fact that the silver coin is so beautiful and attractive, he might bring it to display to others.
