The reading asserts some reasons to explain the song of a unique whale who produces noises in an unusual frequency of 52 hertz which is higher than the normal whales' pitch. The lecturer, however, finds the theories dubious and casts doubts on the reasons proposed by the reading passage.
The author argues that this 52-hertz could be a hybrid so it is reasonable if it has a unique song because of its combined features of different species. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that there is a small chance that this whale could be a hybrid according to its migration patterns. Hybrid whales and non-hybrid ones would migrate together and follow the same migration pattern; nevertheless, this whale does not migrate with other and migrate alone.
Furthermore, the reading passage holds the view that this unique whale may be deaf; hence it could not hear and learn other whales' songs. on the contrary, the professor underlines that it has a high pitch which could be defined as a physical structure of the throat; therefore, it would be unusual to consider this whale deaf because in fact typically the hearing ability and pitch have no connection.
Finally, the reading asserts that this whale may be only a member of a rare or an extinct species. In contrast, the speaker dismisses this issue due to the fact that there is some high-tech equipment that has been used for decades to hear whales' sounds. since this whale must have at least parents of its own species, the scientists should have heard this high pitch sound before.
