Cause of Russia's withdrawal from Syria
Over the past few years, Russia and the United State involvement in Syria’s war has attracted the special attention of the international community. The dramatic withdrawal from Syria of Russia has made many countries feel enigmatic. This essay will explain the reason which leads to Russia’s decision.
First of all, the withdrawal of Russian forces may reduce considerably a burden on the government budget. In practice, deploying a huge number of modern weapons on the battlefield, such as Su-35 fighter jets and S-300 missiles, made Russia spend billions of dollars. According to Moscow’s resources, the minimum cost of maintaining Russia’s war in Syria was 2.4 million dollars per day. Moreover, the prolonged deployment of Russian troops in Syria might lead to a full-scale war that also resulted in severe economic damages.
Secondly, Moscow has attempted to exert intense pressure on the Syrian government to achieve pragmatic agreements. In recent time, Iran is increasingly penetrating the Syrian economy, building assets that would be able to leverage after the war. Russia has paid much attention to Iran’s influence on Syria that might affect their long-term interests. Therefore, the dramatic decision of withdrawal Russian forces could impose more pressures on Syria’s government in the civil war. As the result, if Damascus want to receive sustainable supplies, they will be unanimous to Moscow’s intentions.
In conclusion, the major reasons of Russia’s withdrawal include cutting down the defense spending and gaining benefits from bilateral agreements with Syria’s government. Although the withdrawal of regular Russia’s forces has pushed Syria’s government into a difficult situation, this nation still achieves important victories against hostile forces.
