Within five stages of practice framework designed by Public Relations Institution of Australia (2016), technician is the entry-level in which one might be expected of working as an intern with up to one year experience.
As the nature of PR demands high skills, “at least five years of relevant experience may substitute for a formal qualification” (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2013). In addition to hard skills in communication degree, Public Relations Institution of Australia (2016) indicated non-core communication skills including design, video production, and social media community relations are necessary for maximizing an individual’s industry performance and increasing PR professionalization ( see figure 2). The importance of those technical skills reinforces by marketers’ turning to PR firms rather than traditional advertisements due to the growth of social media users and consumers’ suspicion of online commercials (Allday, 2020).
