Question Doctor Diaz This week we ll look at practices and activities used by primary and secondary school teachers Let s begin by discussing journal writing activities Some teachers ask students to keep a journal and to regularly write down their thought

While making students keep journals is a controversial topic among teachers, I believe it is beneficial to ask students to take notes on the subjects they have been taught. Students, especially primary school students, should work on improving their handwriting. Accordingly, keeping journals is not only a helpful opportunity that helps them to develop their writing skills but also a method for teachers to spot their writing problems as well as their misunderstandings. As Clair astutely mentioned, teachers will have a chance to realize students’ comprehension of the topic and will solve their deficiencies before getting too late. For instance, I had several friends who had learned some topics completely wrong, and they had not noticed it until their higher- education level. Thus, note-taking is a crucial technique for the students’ improvement.
