The prosperity of a country depends on many factors. From my point of view, the most important factor is leadership. A good leader of a country must have many qualities . But there are some vital qualities that every leader should possess.

Needless to say, a good leader have to be a patriot. It seems funny that there is a leader does not love his or her country. In fact, there are many leaders who do not have patriotism. In many less-developed countries, state officials just care about how to make benefits and fortify power for themselves. A good leader need to put national interests above their individual interests.

Second, another essential quality of a good leader is vision. A visionary leader is a person who can find out exactly problems of his/her country and know what is short term benefits, what is long term benefits. Therefore, he/she can give appropriate development strategies for country. Emperor Meiji is a typical example for this quality. The Meiji restoration and modernization upset the Japanese social structure at early time but later Japan became of most prosperous country around the world.

Finally, a good leader need to have the ability to realize policies. Regardless of how good a policy is, it will become useless if government cannot apply it into life. Having this ability equals to be an intelligent and brave leader. Franklyn D Roosevelt and his New Deal policies faced a lot of criticism from Americans but he determined to lunch his program. The rise of United States in economy, technology and military after World War Two proved that Roosevelt was absolutely right.

From the above what I have discussed, we can sketch a picture of a good leader of a country. A good leader is a person who love his/her country, is visionary and competent to convince people to follow his/her policies . A country with a leader that possesses all of these qualities can absolutely be a developed country.
