TOEFL integrated writing: work a four-day week.

The article states the benefits of working four-day week instead of five day in the United State companies for both employees and the firm, and provides three reasons of support. However, the lecture explains that following this system has negative impact for association and refutes each of the authors’ reasons.

First, the reading claims that decreasing the time of work will increase the concentration of the employees in doing their job accurately with less error, because they feel more rested, and that will offer the corporation in raising its profit. The professor refutes this point by saying that the company will spend much more money in hiring new employees to prepare them for covering the overload work, and that inevitably affect negatively the company’s profits.

Second, the articles posits that the unemployment rate will decrease, because it’s open the chance to another employees to work in the second shift of the job. However, the professor says that the companies would prefer to pay a little amount of money for their current employees to work overtime rather than spend more money in training processes for new employees.

Third, the reading says that working four- day week will give the workers extra free time for spending it with their families, doing entertainment activities. The professor opposes this point by explaining that the employees will have a high risk in losing their job in case of economic crisis. Since the company would prefer to choose their employees whose work five-day week to continue with it.
