Personally, I think that returning the gift that was given to you is not a good idea.
One of the reasons is that by not returning or exchanging the gift you are showing that you care for and respect the person who gave it to you.
The other reason is that any gift that you receive is a good memory of that occasion. When you think about that time, you feel good remembering the fun you had with your friend.
When I was a child I remember a music box that I received from my cousin. That gift was so special to me that I always feel homesick when I open the music box and listen to it.
That’s why I wouldn’t return or exchange my gifts.
