Vertical migration is a pattern of vertical movement that creatures that live in the ocean or in lakes undertake each day. Usually creatures migrate up to the surface at night and return to the bottom of the oceans during the day. Such Vertical migratory behaviors can be due to various environmental factors such as light, temperature, salinity, or predators. Some creatures’ vertical migratory behaviors depend on an underlying biological rhythm such as age or sex.
