TPO-32 - Integrated Writing Task Starting in the 1960s and continuing until the 1980s, sailors in Russian submarines patrolling the North Alantic and Arctic Ocean would occasionally hear strange sounds. These underwater noises reminded the submarine crews

Both the author of the reading and the lecturer discuss about the stranges sounds coming from underwater that used to heard by sailors in Russian submarines that they were patrolling the North Atlantic and Arctic Ocean between 1960s and 1980s.

First, the reading claims that the sounds were actually coming from male and female ocra whales where they were calling each other. Submarines were able to pick up these braze noises. Nevertheless, the lecturer believes submarines would not be able to hear these noises because the orca whales live in other surface of the ocean that submarines can not hear them.

Second, the reading states that these sounds are caused by giant squid. Whales are very intelligent animals and they could also understand where their sound goes. However, the lecturer says Russian submarines first detected in 1960s and disappeard in 1980s. There is no reason to live only one or two decades for whales.

Third, the reading states that Russians were picking up stray sounds from submarines and the technology of military is well-developed to do this. In contrast, the lecturer says Submarines does not hold up and they do not change their direction because there was no such noise.

In conclusion, the author of the reading surely believes that it was possible and actually real noises that were coming from whales and heard by Russian submarines. However, the lecturer explains there was no sound heard by anyone at that time.
