TOEFL T P O 25 - Integrated Writing Task

the article states that a vessel that found in Iraq is not likely were actually used as electric batteries in ancient times and provides three reasons for support. However, the professor explains that the argument is not convincing and refutes each of the author's reasons.

First, the reading argues that if the vessels were used as batteries, they would probably have been attached to some electricity conductors such as metal wires. Nevertheless, the professor mentions that vessel discovered by local people and they did not recognize the importance of that and they might throw the wire away.

Second, the article claims that the copper cylinders inside the jars look like a part that discovered in Seleucia and we know that those used for holding scrolls of sacred texts. The professor contends that it is true that those are similar but it does not make any sense. She adds that those vessels might be adapted to new purposes such as batteries.

Third, the reading avers that the ancient people had no devices that relied on electricity and they did not need batteries. The lecture opposes with this point by saying that there is some evidence that the ancient people had some invisible powers such as mind shock and as a result, they used batteries. She adds that they might use electricity for the healing process and stimulate the mussels.
