2) TPO - writing integrated taskSummarise the points made in the lecture. Be sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific points made in the reading passage - reduction in literature reading

The reading passage and the lecture are both about the decline in the reading of literature. The lecturer completely refutes the arguments in the article. She argues that these explanations are faulty.

Firstly, the lecture states that other types of subjects such as political or history books are also high-quality readings. Moreover, they stimulate creativeness in readers. This directly opposes the reading passage that states that nothing else provides the intellectual stimulation that literature does.

Secondly, the lecturer explains that spending less time reading literature does not mean a reduction in the culture itself. Furthermore, listening to music and watching movies is not a waste of time and will not shorten the culture standards. This idea disagrees with the article that states that these are trivial forms of entertainment and reduce the level of culture.

Finally, the lecturer believes that the reduction of supporters to writers is due to the author’s fault because they write in a manner that is difficult for readers, in general, to understand it. The reading passage, on the other hand, claims that publishers are leaded to invest and support less the writers because of the lack in the audience for literature.
