The line graph illustrates the number of goods transported namely road, water, rail,
pipeline from 1974 to 2002 in the UK.
Overall, it is evident from the graph that road had experienced the most spectacular by
the end of the period. The amount of goods transported by all four modes of transport
witnessed an upward trend over the time frame.
In comparison with the amount of road in the UK, which accounted for 70 million
tons of good delivered, the quantity in rail and water were much lower and nearly equal,
at 38 millions of tons. At the same time, the number of pipeline just at 5 millions of tons.
The year 2002 saw a rapid climb in the quantity of good transported by road about 88
millions of tons. Despite some fluctuations in first four years, the number of water and
rail saw different trends. While the figure for water witnessed an upward trend to 60
millions of tons, that of water decreased slowly then recovering to the first time. The
number of pipeline had similar to road, there was a dramatic growth to 23 millions of
tons, followed by a slight decrease to 20 millions of tons at the end of the period.
