Should countries encourage tourism.Discuss
In this day and age, tourism is getting more and more prevalent because of people’s needs for relaxation and traveling. However, it is highly debatable whether the tourism industry should be encouraged in many nations because some would support its benefits while others claim its drawbacks.
To begin with, tourism makes substantial contributions to the country’s economic development. Vietnam; for example, attracts a large number of tourists due to its landscapes and historical sites and gets a lot of money from the accommodation, hotel, and restaurant services. Tourism also creates employment opportunities for local people.
Secondly, tourism provides a great opportunity for local people to be exposed to new cultures. They would gain profound insight into the lifestyles and different cultures of other countries. What is more, traditional foods and costumes of each region are widely introduced to foreigners as a way to promote the country’s image.
On the other hand, it may be argued that tourism put a serious threat to the environment. For instance, holidaymakers throw many kinds of trash such as paper, bottles, and food into the river leading to water pollution. In addition to this, using a wider range of vehicles serves tourism causing air pollution as well.
In addition, local culture may be endangered in the future. Hoi An, the most visited destination of Vietnam, for instance, has been gradually westernized due to the social and cultural pressures from the influx of tourists. The fact shows that if we don’t know how to preserve our cultural values well, we will easily lose them.
All things considered, the obvious conclusion to be drawn is that tourism exerts significant influences on the country from both sides. However, I believe that the advantages of tourism outweigh its disadvantages to some certain degree, which would be great potential to foster the country in the moment and future. Thus, the government should care more about the growth of tourism.
