TPO-15 - Integrated Writing Task The cane toad is a large (1.8 kg) amphibian species native to Central and South America. It was deliberately introduced to Australia in 1935 with the expectation that it would protect farmers' crops by eating harmful insec

The over population of the cane toads in Australia is the subject of concern. Paragraph suggests three reasons to stop the population growth and to destroy cane toads. Where as, lecture discusses about the probability of failure of the procedures mentioned in the paragraph.
Firstly, paragraph states that fencing in the region can prevent the entry of the toads. Contrary to this opinion, lecture says that fencing could work for the large toads but it will fail with young toads and eggs which reside in the water. A river stream can carry toads and their eggs easily to the other side of the fence. These young toads can multiply and establish new population on the other side of the fence.
Secondly, paragraph mentions that toads can be captured easily and can be destroyed voluntarily. Similarly it is more easy to destroy young toads and eggs in water. Disagreeing with this procedure, lecture states that activity for the destruction of toads can also destroy native frogs specially young native frogs which can affect the ecological life.
Thirdly, paragraph shows that scientist has prepared disease causing virus which has been used earlier to avoid in maturing and reproducing of the toads. While, lecture states that this virus is not harmful for native reptiles and other animals but this virus can be transferred along with the reptiles when they are transferring to other locations like America to balance ecological cycle. The effect of transferred virus can affect the native toads of America. This will be disastrous and can affect ecological cycle of America.
