The similarities and differences between two cultures
Every nation in the world has its own culture which illustrates unique values transferred to the next generations. The social, political, economic features play an essential role in forming the cultural values of a country. While countries have different cultures due to their peculiar structures, they are in constant contact with each other. Specifically, there has been a continuing interaction between the Eastern and the Western throughout thousands of years’ history. It is clear that both cultures are very similar to some extent, but they also show several significant distinctions.
One similarity between the Eastern culture and the Western culture relates to religious beliefs. Despite the different religions they follow, their religious practices share the same aspects. For instance, Christians living in the West go to the church every Sunday to pray as a habit. Likewise, Muslims in the East go to the mosque every Friday in the direction of their beliefs. In addition, religious families always nurture their children to be obedient to commandments when they are young and take the efforts to transfer them to the next generations. Furthermore, both civilizations are also similar in terms of communication types which are namely verbal, non-verbal, written, listening and visual. In daily speech, people in these sides use the five above kinds to express what they mean as well as how they feel and their counterparts can absolutely understand the contents.
However, the Eastern and Western cultures bear the crucial difference in family structures. In Eastern culture, the role of the family is more significant and decisive to a person’s life than the Western’s one. Specifically, the children in the Eastern are comprehensively cultivated from the day they were born to being adults by their parents. Even when they become mature enough to earn livelihood by themselves, their thought of getting supports from the families on unanticipated issues is quite dominant. In contrast, Western people have a tendency to live independently when they become grown up. Reaching the age of eighteen and being capable of sustaining themselves, the teenagers will be not allowed to gain financial assistance from their families. It is the self-sufficiency developed and practiced in the transition between children and adults that plays a major role in youngsters’ adaptation to a liberated lifestyle due to their profound awareness of this.
Another outstanding distinction between the cultures of both sides which is worth mentioning relates to the term of education system. Traditions and customs manifest themselves in the Eastern education system through the majority of conventional teaching and studying methods. While the Eastern habitants maintain the outdated curriculum which heavily biases the theory as well as audiovisual activities, the Western intellectual appreciate the opposite schedule. Their learning system is continuously open to innovations and advances of human civilization. They identify exactly what society demands from the youth and train young generations to meet all of these requirements by appropriate modern processes. Besides the time of studying in class, the students are obliged to attend extracurricular programs and sharpen life skills to deal with obstacles in the future. Additionally, scientific and technological developments are also utilized in their schooling system to get the highest effect in education mission.
In conclusion, it is clearly seen that there are several remarkable similarities and differences between the Eastern and Western culture. These resemblances and variances partly have their origins in significant historical events and culture crossing of the countries in the world for a long time. However, thanks to cultural diversity, people have a chance to directly discover, research and study the beauty of human civilization in general and each religion in particular.
