The graph below compares figures for the production and consumption of energy in the US from 1950 to 2000. It also predicts figures for 2025.

The line graph compares the total of energy produced and consumed during 50 years in US and is predicted to rise in 2025. Overall, from 1950 to 2000, although both figures showed an upward trend, consuming the energy was much higher than US production, and year by year both increased dramatically until the US consumption skyrockets in 2025.

In 1950, it can be clearly seen that US produced the energy about 25 BTU and it was reasonably similar with their consumption. Before the US consumption rose around 55 BTU in the early 1975, both trends fluctuated. In fact, the total of energy that they used was slightly different with their production about 57 BTU.

From 1975 to 2000, both figures showed a fluctuate increase amongst these years until there was a significant gap shown between the consumption and production trends. It was the fact that in 2000, the US production went up steadily while their consumption rose dramatically around 57 BTU and 80 BTU respectively. It is noticeable that US predicts a peak of consuming the energy approximately 130 BTU, meanwhile, the production goes up steadily around 77 BTU.

To sum up, there was a dramatic gap between consuming and producing the energy in US, while the energy production was lower than the consumption.
