The bar chart below shows the percentage of people living alone in 5 different age groups in the US from 1850 to 2000

The bar chart illustrates data on the changes in the proportion of the population living on their own categorized into five distinct ages of groups in America, throughout fifteen decades, starting from 1850.
In general, the figure for senior citizens aged 55 to 64 was particularly far higher than that of the remaining groups in 1950 and 2000. Additionally, all five categories experienced overall increases with appearances of younger age groups in 1900 for 27-36 years old and in 1950 for 17-26 years old.
More specifically, the 55-to-64 group had the highest percentage of people living alone, with roughly 3% in 1850, rising significantly to 17% in 2000. Meanwhile, despite starting at around 2% in 1850, the figure for people in the age range of 37-46 and 47-54 experienced rapid growth to 7% and 13% in 2000, respectively.
On the other hand, the younger generations from 27 to 36 and 17 to 26 had shown a strong tendency to keep themselves since 1950, with about 2% for each category. However, by 2000, their figures had witnessed sharp increases to 5% and 8% accordingly.
