The bar chart below shows the percentage of people living alone in 5 different age groups in the US from 1850 to 2000.

The bar chart illustrates, the proportion of US citizen who living alone with five different age categories such as 17-26, 27-36, 37-46, 47-56, and 57-66 during the year of 1850 and 2000.

Overall, it has been clear from the graph that, the most noticeable amount of people living alone in all categories in the year of 2000. The highest percentage of people living alone is age over 55. .Whereas, in 1850, people who is living single was only after the age of 37.

In 1850, figures only three age groups have given which is nearly 2.5 % in 37 -46 and 47 -56 and about 3% in 57-66. However, after 5 decades in 1900, the graph was included the age of 27-36 with 2% in the single people data. The remaining age groups are relatively stable with previous years and slightly increased the people more than 56-67 with almost 4%.

The majority of people with 56-64 was intended to live alone in 1950 compared to other age groups with approximately 9%. The remaining groups were accounted as, below 4% and the lowest category was 17-26 which is mere 2%. Whereas, in 2000, the single people amount was at the top with about 17% and 46-57 age group was the second position which is about 13%. Moreover, the group of 17-26, 27-36 and 37-46 was in figures, 5%, 8% and 7% respectively.
