The bar chart shows the percentage of dependents in five different countries around the world in 2000 and 2050.
The bar chart compares how many dependents there were in 2000 and will be in 2050 in five various countries around the world. Overall, it is obvious that the average percentage of world independents is predicted to rise to about 42% in 2050 from around 25% in 2000. The data in the five countries can be roughly separated into two groups, one consisting of Indonesia, China, Korea, and Japan, the other comprising India.
As we can see from the first group, there will be an increase in the number of dependents in the four countries from 2000 to 2050. A significant rise can be seen in the percentage of Korean independents, rising from the lowest point (about 20%) in 2000 to 40% in 2050, almost a twofold increase. Also, the proportion of Japanese dependents will have reached the peak at about 50% in 2050, much higher than the world average figure. Although the percentage of dependents in Japan in not only 2000 but also 2050 far exceeded that of dependents in Korea, the latter will reflect a larger growth rate. Meanwhile, the number of dependents in both China and Indonesia will increase by the same percentage (5%), from nearly 30% to approximately 35%. However, in the second group, five decades will witness a modest decrease in the number of Indian dependents, from 35% to 27%.
