Overall, India and Romania have comparatively higher proportions of students proficient in a foreign language. Moreover, women in the given nations, apart from Thailand, surpass men.
India has the highest proficiency rate, with nearly 70% of female students and over half of the male students versed in a second language. Following that, in Romania, over 63% and 42% of women and men are multilingual respectively, creating the largest disparity between the two genders in the chart. The only exception is in the case of Thailand, where the males are more fluent in a foreign language than females (over 30% compared to 27%).
Following India and Romania, Vietnam has the third-highest overall percentage of foreign-language speakers, with 56% and nearly 42% of its female and male population. Furthermore, over a third of Russian males are good at a foreign language, while approximately one-fifth of Chinese men have such skills. Meanwhile, the proportions of their female counterparts are recorded at 42 and almost 30% respectively.
