The chart shows the level of donation among British people according to age between 1990 and 2010.
Overall, the percentages of people making charitable donation before and after the age of 50 share the different patterns. There was an increase in these figures among people aged 18-50 between 1990 and 2010, while that of people aged over 50 witnessed an opposite trend.
Looking at the 18-50 age-group, in 1990, the proportion of the British donating money in the 36-50s was the highest, at 42%, while the 18-25s had the lowest percentage, at only 17%. However, by 2010, these figures had declined significantly to 35% and 17% respectively. Besides, the percentages of people contributing money in the 26-35s experienced a considerable decrease between 1990 and 2010, from 31% to 24%.
While the age group of 18-50 saw an substantial decrease in the proportion of people donating money from 1990 to 2010, there was an upward trend in that of people aged 51-65, from 35% to 40%, which was the highest figure in 2010. The figure for people who over 65s was lower about 5% than this, but it was still a little more than the same age-group in 1990, at 32%.
