Overall, percentage of households in owned accommodations moderately increased, meanwhile graph for people, who rented loadgings showed a downward trend.
The amounts of tenants were about 76 % (that was the highest per cent troughout the period) in 1918, being higher than owners rate by approximately 60 %. It fell to near 70 % in 1939 and remained stable until 1953, then continued to decrease gently to 2001 reaching around 30 %. However, the graph experienced a slight growth of renters in 2011.
Percentage of housing owners in England and Wales was above 20 % in 1918, rising to around 30 % in 1939. The figure of owners illustrates a period of stability, however it rose up to 40 % in 1961 and gradually increased, hitting the point of about 70 per cent in 2001. It is also worth to be pointed, that in 1971 the amount of households in owned and rented accommodation was equal.
